Depression

”But you have everything, you have no reason to be depressed!”

” You don’t pray enough”

”You seem so happy all the time, how are YOU depressed?

Sound familiar?

According to mentalhealth.org.uk

”Depression is the predominant mental health problem worldwide, followed by anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.”  ”19.7% of people in the UK aged 16 and over showed symptoms of anxiety or depression”

The definition of depression according to mental health.org.uk is ”a common mental health problem that causes people to experience low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration.’

When I fell into depression, I didn’t leave the house for 2 months, I lost a large amount of weight, nothing literally made me happy, I would stay in bed for hours, I didn’t even want to shower, I would have dissociative episodes, if I wasn’t reminded to eat, I wouldn’t eat. I had so many great people and yet I still felt alone, I’d question myself, why that was happening to me. I’d cry almost every night to God ”What did I do to deserve this, I haven’t hurt anyone why me?”

No one wants to be depressed, one could have everything in the world and still be very depressed.

  • Jim Carrey, one of the funniest men and best actors, battling depression
  • Cara Delevingne model and actress, depressed.
  • Jon Hamm actor, battled with depression

I could go on and on about what famous person is depressed but you get the idea. If you’re the person suffering from depression I am here to tell you that I understand how you feel and that you are not alone, it’s a very cliché thing to hear but I truly mean it. It’s in writing, isn’t it?

Don’t listen to the people that say you have no reason to be depressed, you don’t need to have a reason, it’s literally out of your control, furthermore it’s a very idiotic thing to say. People that think it’s someone’s decision to be depressed are very closed minded and only see the world from the tip of their nose. Don’t listen to the people that say you aren’t praying hard enough, I know you are and so does your God.

Reach out to someone, an organisation, your local place of worship, make a doctor appointment, I guarantee someone is willing to help you and see that you are happy. Firstly make sure you eat, take a shower and do something that you love, these are the first few steps to a healther brain and your happiness.
