Most of us have heard that term ”The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side” stating that if things aren’t going well there are other places we can look. Well hang on a minute…before we hop onto the next thing and start looking else where, let’s just think for a moment.
The grass only seems greener on the other side because you haven’t watered your own land, now your grass is brown.
The other day I found myself comparing myself to my peers, I am not one to do this often but I couldn’t help but feel envious. Psychologically we only compare ourselves to people most similar to us, there’s no way I would ever compare myself to Michelle Obama or Oprah Winfrey because we are no where near the same, age or even status bracket. We are too different to ever be compared to one another. Comparisons are a completely normal and natural thing, almost every living being does it but when jealousy and envy come in that’s where it becomes a problem. It can either be delt with in two different ways. Spite or motivation.
The grass is only greener the other side because you’re looking at what your peers are doing when essentially you could have achieved so much by now. When you render your focus on others, your growth deters.

What I felt is completely normal though it made me uncomfortable, I allowed myself to feel it and asked myself why. Why do I feel envious? When did it start? Why does it make me uncomfortable? Asking yourself these types of questions helps you understand yourself better and from that you can come up with an answer. Jealousy and envy are natural human emotions, trying to run away from them just makes them stronger and bothersome. Face your emotions, challenge them, accept them, work on them and move on.
